Everyone was happy to get back to school and our regular routines after the holiday break. Mr. Chris came in and taught the children about different types of instruments and music from the movie "The Sound of Music". He also showed the children how to sign language to the words Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do. It was informative for students and teachers!
In class we worked on money this month. All children are learning the names of the coins and how much each coin is worth. The Kindergarteners are also working on adding the coins together.
We also discussed Louis Braille. There are several books at our local library that we borrowed and shared with the children. We were amazed that even the pictures in the books were elevated with the braille lettering underneath them. The children learned how important it is that everyone be able to read.
We celebrated Dr. Martin Luther King's birthday and his accomplishments.
2/2 Groundhog Day - we are hoping that the groundhog doesn't see his shadow - we need spring!
2/11 Dental Visit - by one of the clinical staff of Dr. Jason Rosenfeld's office in Boonton. They will talk
to the 3-5 year olds about the importance of dental health.
2/5 100th day of school!! We will celebrate by making trail mix with the children. They will
get to count out 100 of each ingredient. If your child has allergies, please send in a snack for him/her.
2/6 International Dance Program (see below) - we will be learning about MEXICO
2/7 Pajama Day - everyone wear your pajamas and bring in favorite stuffed animal for show and tell
2/14 Valentines Day - please have children bring in valentines for all children in their class. The number of children in each class will be posted on each classroom door. Just have them sign the card with their name (please don't put the names of other children on the envelopes). We are also asking for donations for the Valentines snack and goodies to be included in their Valentine's bags. We will celebrate in the morning and afternoon so no one misses out. Parent volunteers are not needed for this event.
2/17 President's Day - no school. We will be discussing the Presidents during this week.
2/19 Jamming for Juniors
2/21 Picture Day in the morning - everyone is invited. Proofs and order forms are sent back to school in a few weeks for you to make your selection.
February is also Black History Month. We will read stories and have the children do special colorings. We also have new Black History Month bulletin boards for our interest wall.
International Dance Program
Beginning this month we will be bringing an International Dance Program to our school. Instructors from B Fit Kids will come to our school the first Thursday of each month between 9-10 and teach two half hour sessions. Each month a new country/culture will be introduced to the children. The children will "travel" around the world to experience new cultures, popular dances and use their imagination to play the culture's favorite sports. If your child is not regularly scheduled to attend school on Thursday mornings they are still welcome to come in for one of the half hour sessions. Please see Mrs. Dugan to make arrangements.
