September/October Recap Our first month of school went by very quickly! We learned our friend's and teacher's names and got used to the daily routine. In September we celebrated Johnny Appleseed Day by making applesauce and had Back to School Night. Thank you to all of the parents that attended. We are also back in the swing of things with our music classes with Mr. Chris. With Mr. Chris we learned about how to use some of his musical instruments which the kids just loved and some fun Halloween music. Thank you to all that participated in our Kidstuff fundraiser - it was a great success.
In October we had a great time learning about fire safety with Fireman Vinnie and getting to climb on the fire truck. We enjoyed spending time with all of the Grandparents that came to visit us on Grandparent's Day. While here they got to watch their grandchildren do activities and then have a snack with them. The Kindergarten class and Pre-K class had their first field trip of the year to Space Farms Zoo and Museum. The weather was beautiful and there were lots of animals for the children to see. The children particularly liked the bears who would stand on their hind legs and wave to them.
In getting ready for Halloween we had our annual pumpkin patch on the top field outside. Each child collected a pumpkin and got to clean and decorate it prior to bringing it home. In class we also carved out a pumpkin, felt the pulp inside and then finished by having the teacher carve its face. On Halloween we had our annual Boo or Treat/Parade. The children looked great in their costumes, they sang to their parents after the parade and then went to the playground to trick or treat. Thank you to all parents that participated and helped out with our Halloween Boo or Treat - it was a great time!!
All of our classrooms have been concentrating on shapes and colors. The interest wall in each classroom has different themes and changes monthly. In October, Mrs. Dugan's class had organs of the body. The children discussed the function of each body organ. Mrs. Connolly's classroom had American Birds. They talked about all of the birds we can find in our area. Mrs. Davis's class had a continuation of the many shapes. They compared shapes to different objects that they would see around them. In November Mrs. Dugan and Mrs. Davis's class will have Native Americans and Mrs. Connolly will have body organs on their interest walls.
We start off the month of November with our parent observations. You are invited to sign-up for a 15 min observation in your child's classroom. Signups are on all classroom doors. If your child is still adjusting to school, this might not be a good time to observe. Speak to your child's teacher to see if in a month would be more suitable.
